Reflexology and Palliative Care: Supporting Clients at the End of Life

As a reflexologist working with clients who are receiving palliative care, or nearing their end of life, you have the opportunity to support their overall well-being in a meaningful way. Reflexology can offer many benefits, including increased comfort, reduced stress and pain, and support for emotional and spiritual needs. It also provides a safe and calming space where clients may feel able to talk openly—sharing thoughts and feelings they might choose to protect their family from.
Reflexologists can also play a valuable role in signposting clients and their families to additional support.

A century ago, death was a familiar part of home life, with all members of the household, including children, present and aware of the process. Today, many people have little experience with dying and may feel unprepared. This course includes essential information about death and dying, equipping reflexologists with knowledge that can help guide and support clients and their loved ones through this natural stage of life.
Many individuals in hospices have the opportunity to receive reflexology in their final weeks and days. However, the vast majority—those spending their last days at home, in a care home, or in hospital—often miss out on this valuable support. With only 5% of people able to access hospice care at the end of life, isn’t it time reflexology became more widely available to everyone?
This course covers essential topics to support reflexologists working with clients at the end of life, including:
- Important reflexology adaptations specifically tailored for this stage of life
- Reflexology protocols for use after diagnosis and as the client becomes more frail
- Understanding death and the dying process, including key considerations for reflexologists
- Support options available for clients and their families as their needs change
- Essential legal requirements following a death
- Common diseases and conditions, enabling you to adapt treatments to best support your clients

Beyond reflexology techniques, this resource provides essential guidance on recognizing the signs of approaching death, practical steps to take when someone passes away, and an understanding of common conditions that may arise. This knowledge will empower you to offer support to both your client and their family during this important time. By being proactive in identifying and directing individuals to the necessary services, reflexologists can play a crucial role in bridging the gap between complementary therapies and conventional healthcare, fostering a holistic approach to care during the end-of-life journey.
The course is divided into 26 easily accessible modules, featuring videos, fact sheets, and reflexology protocols. With this blended learning format, you can progress through the course at your own pace, fitting it around your schedule.
